Veronika Hunt Šafránková

Veronika Hunt Safrankova has been Head of Brussels Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since April 2019, working closely with EU institutions and stakeholders based in Brussels on key policy areas to strengthen partnerships, cooperation and joint efforts in addressing global  environmental challenges.

She joined UNEP after her four-year assignment at Charles University in Prague where she was working on internationalization and partnerships as Director of International Relations Office.

Prior to that, she has worked for public administration in the Czech Republic since 2000. During her over twelve-year career at the Czech Ministry of Environment she has held different management positions including First Deputy Minister, covering various areas – international cooperation, sustainable development, EU environmental legislation, EU funds, national environmental policy, strategies and instruments, and representing the Czech Republic in relevant European and international bodies.  Veronika coordinated environmental affairs during the first Czech Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2009.

She led several EU-funded twinning projects in then EU accession and candidate countries (Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Ukraine) on transposition and implementation of selected EU environmental legislation.
